Thao had been asking me to do the Firecracker 10k with her for “fun.”

Thao is one of my best friends, and a Captain for the Team in Training South Bay division.  She has an inspiring story, losing a ton of weight (healthily!), running 6 half marathons and 3 fulls (her 4th being LA Marathon this March),

and collecting quite a bit of bling in the process since October 2009.

For the record, I don’t run.  I don’t like running.  I like hot yoga, ellipticals and Hoist fitness equipment.  I hadn’t run more than a few miles since high school (and it was PUNISHMENT during tennis practice! Indian Run?  NO THANKS).

But it seemed like a nice challenge, and I wanted to join her on the road. 

So the day before the face she took me to Road Runner Sports to get fitted for a pair of running shoes.  I picked out a pair of Saucony’s that felt like I was running on marshmallows (clouds too, but more so marshmallows!).

The day of the race arrived, and we showed up an hour early (oops),

but Mei and Jackie found us! 

The course started in China Town, went up hills I didn’t know existed, onto the 110 N, through Dodger Stadium, down the 110S and ended back in China Town.

I didn’t train and I’m usually on the sidelines cheering, so it was a nice change.

I’m really glad I did it.

Onto the next one.
